Itinerary

Itinerary

This private one-day tour takes you to three of the Lowlands’ finest distilleries, where you’ll experience historic origins, elegant drams, and state-of-the-art whisky-making techniques. Along the way, journey through rolling farmland, medieval abbeys, and charming villages, immersing yourself in the landscapes that gave birth to Scotland’s national drink.

Morning Departure: Edinburgh to Fife

Leaving the city behind, we head north across the Firth of Forth, with views of the iconic railway bridge—a symbol of Scotland’s industrial past. As we travel into Fife, the scenery softens into rolling farmland, coastal villages, and wide skies. It’s a peaceful start to the day, with the road gently guiding us into whisky country.

Morning: Lindores Abbey Distillery – Where It All Began

Our first stop is Lindores Abbey Distillery, known as the spiritual home of Scotch whisky. It was here, in 1494, that whisky was first recorded being made in Scotland.

Today, the distillery blends old and new—a modern building nestled beside centuries-old abbey ruins. You'll enjoy a guided tour that explores this fascinating heritage, followed by a tasting of their light, fruity whisky that reflects both tradition and innovation.

Midday: Scenic Drive Through the Lowlands

After Lindores, we take a leisurely drive west through the Lowlands. The route winds past quiet villages, open fields, and peaceful countryside—a perfect backdrop to reflect on the morning’s experience and get ready for the next distillery.

Early Afternoon: Rosebank Distillery – A Welcome Return

Next, we arrive in Falkirk to visit the newly reopened Rosebank Distillery. Often called the “King of the Lowlands,” Rosebank was known for its triple-distilled, elegant style before closing in the 1990s. Now beautifully restored, it’s once again producing whisky that’s smooth, floral, and full of character.

Enjoy a tour of the distillery and taste the results of this long-awaited return.

Late Afternoon: Glenkinchie Distillery – The Floral Lowland Malt

Our final stop is Glenkinchie, tucked into the East Lothian countryside not far from Edinburgh. The distillery is surrounded by gardens and farmland and has a calm, welcoming atmosphere.

Glenkinchie produces a delicate, fragrant whisky that plays a key role in Johnnie Walker blends. You’ll explore the visitor centre, take a tour through the production areas, and finish with a guided tasting tailored to your interests.

Evening Return to Edinburgh

As the sun dips low, we journey back to Edinburgh through the quiet beauty of the Lowland landscape. The day winds down with soft views of fields and hills, and by the time you see the city skyline again, you’ll have a deeper appreciation for the region—and its whisky.

A Relaxed Day of Whisky, Scenery, and Story

This is a day for enjoying the calm, refined side of Scotland’s whisky heritage. With peaceful drives, fascinating distilleries, and carefully crafted tastings, the Lowland Whisky Journey is the perfect introduction to the world of Scotch—without the rush.

Wonderful tour! Nathan greeted us at the airport dressed in a kilt. He was a hoot!! He came prepared with drinks, snacks and some wonderful Scotch to sample. Our tour felt like a party. Lots of laughs, great views, story telling and information. Very accommodating to our needs. I wish we had more time with Nathan. Highly recommend. Side note: The planning for this trip was easy as pie. The correspondence was excellent and the personnel was gracious to put up with my many questions.

Once in a life time experiences! I booked the 2 day private outlander tour for a honeymoon/birthday celebration. Working with Noel via email was easy and seamless, even with all the questions I had (and special request to do a hand fasting while out there). Donal took the time to learn the hand fasting tradition and “officiated” for us…it was amazing. As for the tour itself, Donald was incredibly knowledgable and an absolute pleasure to travel with. Just being my wife and I, we rode right up front after being invited and we had why felt like a better view than most dashcams! Donald’s flexibility was a breath of fresh air seeing that my wife and I can get a little adventurous, we stopped for some fish and chips and decided to run in to the North Sea (when will I ever have that opportunity again?). Aside from the castles and the company, Donald also brought along some great whiskeys which was really great to sip with the amazing scenery in the background. I could keep going on about the trip, and seeing that it’s still this memorable 6 months later, I feel I’ve marinated long enough and wanted to pass along my highest recommendation for Noel as a business owner and Donald as a true professional and all around top tier tour guide!

Perfect day! This was absolutely one of the best things we did on our vacation! Our tour guide was Andy and he was the absolute best. I can’t say enough good things about him. We skipped a few things that we didn’t wanna see and he took us to other parts that were better for us. I would highly recommend this Tour!
